Directive to Staff Regarding Preliminary Plan for Implementation of the Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Community Conversation

The Denver Public Library Commission commends the vision, energy, creativity, and commitment to service that the staff of the Denver Public Library so fully displays. We see the work that has culminated in the Report and Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Community Conversation on the Library’s Future as an outstanding example of these important staff characteristics.

Having affirmed the Advisory Committee’s recommendations in concept, we now take the next step in the strategic process. We will need further information and perspective to enable us to make critical policy decisions in the months and years to come. Therefore, we direct the staff of the Denver Public Library to prepare a plan for the implementation of the Advisory Committee’s recommendations, especially as they apply to the styles of library service discussed in the Community Conversation. The Implementation Plan is to be presented at the February 16, 2006 regular monthly meeting of the Library Commission.

We request that the implementation plan include a thorough discussion of the service style concepts as refined by the Community Conversation, an action component outlining the steps to be undertaken in each Denver Public Library location, budget estimates, and information on additional facilities needs.

We look forward to receiving an excellent product from Library staff and to engaging in the further discussion that will shape the Library’s future.
