Thank you, Volunteers

Congratulations Rose Keating!

Denver Public Library docent Rose Keating has won the 7 Everyday Hero Award from Channel 7 News for her philanthropy with her organization Denver Tech For All. Tech for All makes available to individuals in the community the means to become skilled and competent in computer use; to gather donations, collect and recondition used equipment, identify qualified recipients and place the appropriate equipment with them solely for their use and at no charge.
Thanks for all you do Rose!

Spread the Cheer ...Volunteer!

I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.
-Maya Angelou, American Writer and Entertainer

In partnership with these volunteers, and many more like them, the Library is able to elevate our level of service to the people of Denver and beyond.
A big thundering thank you for all that you do!

Vivian Dodds, Volunteer at Ford-Warren
Vivian has been volunteering at the Ford-Warren branch for over 10 years. She started as a computer training docent, and still does that as the need arises, but she takes on pretty much any task we ask her to do - including retrieving books from the shelves for holds, checking the shelves for lost books or other materials, and special projects and events. Before retiring, Vivian was a school nurse for the Aurora Public Schools. When she is not volunteering, Vivian and her husband are out traveling - within Colorado and the United Sates, and all over the world. The couple visited Turkey most recently, and before that, they visited several countries in South America. They have also traveled extensively in Southeast Asia. In fact, Vivian has set foot on every continent except Antarctica! Her interesting life experiences combined with her warm and open personality make Vivian a stellar addition to the team at Ford-Warren!

Edna Williams, Volunteer at Ford-Warren

Ms. Williams has been our volunteer storyteller for twenty years at the Ford-Warren Library. She is a WONDERFUL person to know, has great stories to tell and does a wonderful job doing it. She always includes the kids and has a way of keeping their attention during the story hour with her stories, dolls and music, and makes it a lot of fun for all. When a group does not show up for story hour, she will pitch in and help with our shelving. She has also introduced her grandsons and even her neighborhood children to volunteering at the library. All in all, she is just a wonderful person to be around and a great asset to the Denver Public Library and especially the Ford-Warren branch!

Arleen Lawrence, Volunteer at Burnham-Hoyt
Arleen Lawrence has been a DPL volunteer for over 25 years.
Arleen focuses on shelving new books; a daunting task. She faces as many as 7 new book trucks when she arrives on Thursdays and tackles them all, along with any others our shelvers wheel over from Circulation throughout the day.
Arleen has an eye for detail and a passion for order. She spends the first part of her shift shelf reading in the new nonfiction stacks, then identifies and pulls not-so-new books that are ready to be moved to their permanent locations.
Arleen fills the new book displays in Schlessman Hall and fluffs our Featured Title tables. She helps customers she encounters in the stacks and has a smile for everyone she meets.
In addition to being a great new book shelver, Arleen provides nonfiction reader's advisory service to BUR staff. She always has a new nonfiction book to talk up with infectious enthusiasm. Burnham-Hoyt staff love Arleen. She is fun, smart as a whip and as classy as they come. We're lucky to count her as a member of our team.
