Opera fans' hearts broke this week with the news of Joan Sutherland's death. She had a phenomenal vocal range, size and quality of voice that raised the standard of operatic performance. Her friend Luciano Pavarotti called Sutherland the "Voice of the Century." Her highest note was a high F-sharp and her voice remained clear and strong throughout her range.
Join us on the rooftop of the Art Museum Residences for an open air, big sky Dewey After Hours and help select the signature cocktail for the Denver Public Library's Booklovers Ball. Enjoy the amazing view of downtown Denver as the sun sets and you sip, nibble and schmooze.
We'll be sampling martinis and appetizers and voting for the most tasty and delicious drink. The winning drink will be served at the 13th Annual Booklovers Ball. Beer, wine and soft drinks will also be served. Pinnacle Vodka is donating both a regular vodka and a special secret ingredient vodka to inspire the mixologists.
Bring your creative energies and name that drink! The originator of the winning name will be awarded a free ticket to the Booklovers Ball on October 9. The theme this year is "Explore."
The Denver Public Library welcomes suggestions from the community to name the new branch library at Green Valley Ranch, scheduled to open in Spring 2011. The Library will consider all ideas for the new branch name including names of individuals, groups, geographic location or other entities.
Naming suggestions that recognize an individual will be considered for a person who has provided extraordinary service to the Denver Public Library as a staff member, a distinguished person who has provided extraordinary service to the Library or anyone who otherwise merits special recognition.
