Celebrate Kwanzaa with the Library

Kwanzaa

You are invited to learn about and celebrate Kwanzaa at the Library. Kwanzaa is a non-religious African American holiday which celebrates family, community and culture. It is celebrated for seven days: December 26 - January 1.

Join us for Kwanzaa programs featuring performers and light refreshments:

Saturday, December 31, 1 p.m. -Kuumba
Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library

Each day of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of these principles:

  • Umoja - Unity
  • Kujichagulia - Self-Determination
  • Ujima - Collective Work and Responsibility
  • Ujamaa - Cooperative Economics
  • Nia - Purpose
  • Kuumba - Creativity
  • Imani - Faith
