Michael Jordan vs Kobe Bryant: who's better?

If you're missing the NBA season like I am and need a little something to get you through those tough days with no basketball to watch, check this out. I recently went through the DPL (Denver Public Library) and Inter-library loan catalog and found a few "must-see's" in the NBA world, film-wise. Also check out "My Opinion" on the bottom of the blog discussing  my top 10 and favorite NBA players of all time.

If you remember the NBA in the 90's, then you will know that it was ruled by one man: Michael Jordan. The documentary, Michael Jordan In the Max,  features the superstar Michael Jordan, showing highlights, interviews, commentaries, and did I mention highlights?! If you love Jordan, the Chicago bulls, the NBA, and basketball in general, this is a must see. Also, you can really see the style of his game, talent, and drive, and get up close and personal to really study whether he may be the best to have ever played the game of basketball.

Now that you have a fresh reminder of MJ in your head, take a look at this documentary by Spike Lee about Kobe Bryant. Kobe Doin' Work is about Kobe in a live action game.  It gives commentary about exactly what was going through Kobe's mind during the game, and it shows how he expresses himself on the court.  I found it to be a very interesting way to shoot a film. With the added play by play commentary by the man himself, Kobe shows exactly how he exploits opponents' weaknesses, his team's advantages, his own mindset, and what made him the best in the world.

Back in the 80's, oh man was it heated when Magic and the Showtime Lakers would play Larry and the Boston Celtics.  To this day, it is held as one of (if not THE) best rivalry in all sports; hard fouls, old school "bull dog" mentality, fights, win at all costs, and absolute hatred for many years. This film Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals goes in depth of the ups and downs of Larry and Magic's lives, rivalry, teams, and friendship. In my opinion, this film has to be one of the very best sports documentaries ever. It has all you want in a film: sadness, tragedy, redemption, winning, losing, happiness, and, of course, Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson

David Thompson, aka SkyWalker, is the man who inspired Michael Jordan to play the game of basketball. If you're wondering why David Thompson is Michael Jordan's favorite player of all time, check out this film: SkyWalker, the David Thompson Story tells the story of David Thompson and the roller coaster ride that was his life. He went from a beloved superstar to a broke drug addict that nobody wanted. This film gave me a whole new perspective and insight into the legend.  It was very rewarding and heart warming, especially knowing that he was the face of the Denver Nuggets for so many years.

Personally, my favorite player of all time is Allen Iverson because of the way he played the game of basketball and because of all of the heart his displayed during his NBA career.  When I saw 30 for 30: No Cross Over, which highlights his off-court issues and why he was portrayed as a villain to so many, this film really gave me a whole new appreciation for Iverson.

In my opinion Jordan is better then Kobe and Bird is better then Magic but by slim margins

My 10 favorite NBA players in order: Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. J, Lebron James, Hakeem Olajuwon and Dennis Rodman.

In My opinion the 10 Best NBA players ever in order: Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Karl Malone.

I saw Bird and Magic play against the nuggets.I thought Magic was better because Bird was so banged up late in his career.

Bird played tough and his body toke a toll, late in his career all he could do it take some medicine or hope that he can make through a game.

Bird & Magic were even in my opinion neither one was better then the other. In my opinion Kobe is above David Thompson because he has had a career a long one. But I think Thompson had more ability his problems just cut him short.

A lot of people agree with your opinion about Bird and Magic, very tough subject to debate. I also think Kobe is better then Thompson but, it is hard to compare when his career was cut short and severely hurt because of drug abuse, even though Thompson was a great player, he would of probably be the top player in the leagues (ABA and NBA) if he didn't get into drugs and bankruptcy.
