Plaza Voices: Montbello Knitting Circle

We are learning to knit at the Montbello Library! During our Monday evening Plaza programming, our knitting circle takes over the storytime room with our yarn and needles. We are a diverse group of adults, teenagers, and a few children, and it’s a lot of fun getting to know each other.

We’re learning the basics of knitting, and one of our members has offered to teach us all to crochet, too. Some of our kids have even been sewing toys out of felt! We’ve been meeting for a couple of months now, and many of us have finished our very first knitting and sewing projects.

Meet Monoitte Adams and her grandson, Davion. Monoitte is a regular of the Montbello Knitting Circle, and she is a super knitter! See that lovely black scarf around Davion’s neck? Well, that scarf is not only our first finished project, but it’s also a special present for Davion. Monoitte raced through it, and she even found time to help some of the other women in the group with their knitting, too. Now she’s working on another scarf, for her other grandson. The rest of us are working on baby booties, blankets, and dish cloths. What would you like to make?

Please come by and learn to knit, crochet, and sew with us! We meet on Mondays from 6-7 p.m., and we’d love to see you!

This program has been so great for Montbello - truly intergenerational, and they're always laughing... We're so lucky to have Shanna to foster this amazing group!
