Teens + Technology = TEEN TECH WEEK!
Check out the full schedule of events, including events across almost all of the branches of the Denver Public Library system. I wanted to highlight some of the events that will be happening here at Central, most of which will be on the 4th floor in the Community Technology Center.
We’ll be kicking events off at Central with a Teen Gaming Tournament, Saturday, February 25, from 2-4 p.m. – come down to the Level B2 Conference Room to show off your Super Smash Brothers skills. Bring your friends to challenge a librarian in a round of video games!
On Sunday, March 4, from 2-4 p.m., in the Community Technology Center, you can take the GIMP 101 Photo Editing class. Ever wanted to photoshop yourself into the front seat of a Ferrari or make a picture of you on the red carpet with Drake? You can do it all with the GIMP - the GNU Image Manipulation Program. Come learn the basics and take the first steps to editing and combining photos and creating your own digital art! (And check out Christopher's post on how to make animated GIFs with GIMP, if you'd like a preview of what you can learn...)
Ever wanted to make your own techno song or your own beats? On Tuesday, March 6, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Community Technology Center, come learn how to use LMMS (The Linux Multimedia Studio) to Make Your Own Beats. LMMS lets you create melodies and beats, synthesize and mix sounds, and arrange samples. Come learn the basics and leave with your first song!
Finally, come in to the CTC on Saturday, March 10, from 3-4 p.m. to Mod Your Gadget! Personalize your flash drive, cell phone, or MP3 player with lights! Come to the CTC and use Sugru (moldable, air-cured rubber), LED lights and batteries to turn your gadget into a one-of-a-kind creation.
Teen Tech Week promises to be exciting - we'll see you there!
