NEW RADIO STATION??

There’s a new radio station in town, commercial-free and it came in without much fanfare. New since Oct. 31 and part of the Colorado Public Radio (CPR) family, it’s called OpenAir on 1340 AM.

The focus for this new station is new Indie Rock. In the email I received recently CPR said: “Explore new music and new possibilities on OpenAir.” They go on to say that “OpenAir will provide a comprehensive music experience focusing on new and recent music of the past 15 years with a Colorado perspective.”

Colorado MahlerFest is NOW!

book cover The Mahler Symphonies

The 24th annual Colorado MahlerFest is happening now in Boulder through May 22 with performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 at Macky Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday.

My good friend Al wrote: "Conductor Herbert von Karajan said that when one hears Mahler's Fifth, 'you forget that time has passed. A great performance of the Fifth is a transforming experience. The fantastic finale almost forces you to hold your breath.' " As an amateur musician, I can say from my personal experience, that this was true for me. The Littleton Symphony Orchestra, of which I am a member, just recently performed this gargantuan symphony with 5 movements.

Are you afraid of Classical Music?

The MozART Group

So... afraid of classical music, are you?? Try a dose of giggles! Have a heap of some humorous music!!

Recently, a friend sent me a YouTube link to a Polish quartet who call themselves The MozART Group. I watched the video that my friend sent. And then I watched another and another and another. Although there are currently 49 YouTube videos listed for this group, I decided not to watch all of them in one sitting. My cheeks and my sides were starting to hurt from laughing so hard!

Good news for the opera-lover.... Encore showings of The Met's most popular HD broadcasts will be repeated this summer at select theaters beginning June 16 in the US and Canada.

I am overjoyed to find this out because I missed most of this past season's broadcasts.  In case you didn't know, The Metropolitan Opera brodcasts Live in HD performances at theaters around the world. I saw the opera Hamlet,  my first HD (high definition) broadcast,  at the Belmar theater last March. I was wowed from the start.

*WOW!*  No Seats!  First of all, we got there an hour beforehand and almost didn't find seats together for the three of us. It was that full! (*hint* get there early!)
