About the Author |
|
| Nick Arvin was born in Edenton, North
Carolina, but grew up in Clio, Michigan,
a small town amid fields of potatoes and
sugar beets, not far from the factories
of Flint. He first began writing short
stories in high school, but also had an
interest in engineering and that is what
he studied in college at the University
of Michigan and in graduate school
at Stanford. Arvin worked in product
development at Ford for several years
before leaving to study fiction at the
Iowa Writers' Workshop. He moved to
Denver six years ago, shortly after he
began to write Articles of War, and did
much of the research for the novel at
the Denver Public Library. Arvin has
continued to work in engineering, for
a time in forensic analysis and now in
power plant design, while writing a
second novel. Arvin also published a
collection of short stories titled
In the Electric Eden and received a
number of other honors for writing. He and his wife have had
their hands full recently with their son, who is now one year old.
