Fine and Fee Schedule
Fines
You are charged daily fines for each item not returned by its due date. The Library will attempt to notify you when material is overdue. Fines are accrued at 25 cents per day, per item. The maximum fine charged is $10 per item, per checkout period.
Payment Information
Fines may be paid at any Denver Public Library location. We accept cash, checks and credit cards (MasterCard or VISA) payable to Denver Public Library. Payment may also be mailed to any location, sent to the attention of the Circulation Department. At this time, online payment of fines is not available.
Grace Periods
There is a 2 day grace period for most items, and a 39 day grace period for children's materials. If you do not return or renew your items within the grace period, you will be charged overdue fines for each day, including the grace period.
Lost Items
If you have lost an item you will be responsible for paying a standard replacement fee based on the type of materials lost (paperback, DVD, etc.). You will also be charged a processing fee, and you may be charged overdue fines that have accrued on the lost item.
Blocked Cards
You cannot check out or renew materials if you have fines or fees totaling $10 or more, your library account is in "collections" or you have an incorrect address and/or telephone number on your library record.
Library card accounts with fines and/or fees totaling $50 or more will be sent to a collection agency for further action. A fee of $20.00 will be added to your account to cover collection costs.
If you need immediate assistance or more information about your library card record, please visit or call your nearest library.
Special Loan Fees
Some Interlibrary Loan items have a checkout fee. The fee amount is up to the owning library and must be approved by the customer before the item is requested from the owning library. Special loan fees must be paid at the time of checkout.
