Designer Fallene Wells has a lot on her fashion plate

Designer Fallene Wells

Frock Out's guest judge, Fallene Wells, has her dreams in sight!

I'm really excited that Fallene Wells, one of Denver's most talented designers and a graduate of the fast-paced reality competition Project Runway, will be our star judge for Frock Out 3. Though she's busy with a handful of really challenging projects of her own, Fallene didn't hesitate when asked to participate in Frock Out 2012.

Fresh City Life My Branch is Green!

Fresh City Life My Branch taught me how to make a terrarium!

Last week I attended a Fresh City Life My Branch class at Ross-Cherry Creek, and learned how to make a terrarium! Terrariums are in the midst of a huge comeback, and these tiny eco-systems are popping up everywhere. We learned about what ingredients make a successful terrarium, and then designed our own to take home. It was so fun and easy, you can make a terrarium in almost any container.

Winter Lego Contest

This December the families of Denver were able to participate in an exciting LEGO contest. Last year the contest took place at the Schlessman Family Branch in December and January, and this year it was expanded to six branches, as part of the Fresh City Life My Branch program. Hopefully next year even more branches will be able to participate!

The theme for 2012 was “Supersonic World – 2012 and Beyond!” and each participant was asked to create an original scene (no LEGO sets) inspired by this futuristic theme. There were categories for adults, teens, children, and a family category, and each entry had to fit in a shoebox sized space. There were 14 total entries from Bear Valley, University Hills, Smiley, and the Schlessman libraries and the judging took place on January 14th at the Bear Valley Branch Library.

Sex, Lies and Celluloid: Bad Romance in the Golden Age of Hollywood

Love is forever...but it seems longer.

Whether you're a lover of love or a conscientious objector, Bette Davis' 1941 confection The Great Lie will have you on the edge of your seat -- it's a love thriller. The twists and turns on the way to the ending (happy for some, stoic for others) are custom made for two of Hollywood's notorious scenery-chewers: Bette Davis and Mary Astor.

Coffee and Chocolate Tasting at our Anti-Valentine's Day Party

Dear Cupid,

Just stay out of our way.

XOXO,

Fresh City Life

Last night was pretty fantastic here at Fresh City Life. We rechristened our partnership with Curious Theatre Company through Voices From the Front Lines -- a staged reading of works written by military veterans of contemporary wars. Several of the pieces had been written through a special program sponsored by Lighthouse Writers Workshop. There were tears and even laughter -- and our audience was rapt!
