We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with The Denver Center Theatre Company with an exhibit on the August Wilson 10-play canon and its historical significance to Colorado and director, Israel Hicks. Written in 1985, Wilson’s Fences premiered at DCTC in 1990 and will kick off the 2012-13 season. Artistic Director Kent Thompson’s production will be mounted under the stage direction of Lou Bellamy, OBIE Award-winning director, accomplished actor, and scholar who has worked directly with Wilson. The exhibition, will illustrate the history of the contributions of the Loretto Community through photographs, art, and memorabilia. The focus will be on five areas of their history and accomplishments: Beginnings in Kentucky and Santa Fe; The Schools; Global Loretto; Social Entrepreneurship: Peace and Justice; and Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Lives. Some of the signature pieces on view will include a replica of the very first high school diploma conferred in the Colorado territory in 1875 by St.

The Denver Public Library in concert with the Byers-Evans House Museum and the Central City Opera House will host a three-part exhibition featuring the life and work of Anne Evans. The exhibit tells the story of one of the most influential but least known of the leaders in the cultural development of Denver and Colorado.

The exhibition, featuring murals from Denver Public Library’s Western History Collection, will illustrate how Colorado’s murals and muralists tell the state’s history in a vibrant and compelling way. The murals displayed in Walls that Speak span the City Beautiful movement, the development of the Broadmoor Art Academy and subsequent Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Works Progress Administration era, the Chicano movement, and contemporary muralists.

This exhibit is open during Central Library open hours. "Personal Geographies" is an exhibit of handmade, mixed media maps by Jill K. Berry and other artists. The show is in Western History and Genealogy, on the 5th floor of the Central Library through March 31, 2012.

The Cousins Gallery hosts the exhibit 'Echoes of A Middle Passage' featuring collage artist Leonard Scott. In a time where digital media is taking over, Leonard Scott creates intricate, hand pieced collages that serve as a mirror and stunning reflection of black history and culture.
