OLTHLRC promotes an interest in and the study of lives, times, cultures, traditions, ancestries, and histories of the peoples who emigrated to New Spain and New Mexico, many of whom still have descendants in New Mexico, Colorado, California, Texas, Arizona, and Northern New Mexico

Special Interest classes, held on the third Saturday of the month (except July, August, and December), focus on research skills and methodology necessary for a successful family history project.

This is a one-time basic course for the beginner, repeated each month. Attendees will be introduced to thinking genealogically through the exploration of the following:
Stacks of paper: How to organize
Home Sources: Paper and People
Pedigree Charts and Family Group Sheets
Be a Detective
Beginning Internet Sources
Six Major Record Groups

Attendees should dress comfortably. Consider bringing a seat cushion, bottled water, and a sack lunch (there will be a 30 minute lunch break).

Find out how to create a simple map while incorporating the traditional cartographic elements; neat lines, cartouches, legends, compass roses and more. Your map will be of a memory or a dream, real or imagined territory. When it is finished, we will fold it into a small pop-up map fold so you can fit it in your pocket.

DPL's online catalog has a host of invaluable features for the devoted genealogical and historical researcher, including the creation of lists, call number texts, and distinguishing between items in closed and open stacks. Come for tips, tricks, and hacks, and leave with new skills to server your research!

Learn how to navigate Ancestry-Library Edition and discover your family history. This class will help the beginners and seasoned researchers get the most out of this rich resource.

We will view on-line videos of courses on researching families in Ireland, narrated by Evva Benson Housley, of the Family History Library. We will follow each presentation, ranging from 30 to 40 minutes, with a discussion of the topic facilitated by experienced W.I.S.E. researchers. A materials fee of $5 per class will cover the cost of photocopying handouts. Each class will build on information presented in previous classes, and attendance at all four is encouraged.
