The United States spends over $40 Billion on coffee annually. Active Minds will trace the history of coffee from its origins in Ethiopia to the Starbucks around the corner. It is a fascinating story of politics, power, chance, and intrigue. We will also examine coffee's cultural influences, as well as the differences between various types of coffee. Cream and sugar not included.

We will discuss the history of beer and how it is made, as well as the rise of several great American brewers and beer families, the current trends of microbrews and craft beers and their strong Colorado connections. As a bonus we'll have a drawing for a gift certificate to Berkeley Untapped a local beer business with many quality taps on Tennyson Street.

Created after World War II, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) played a pivotal role in fighting, and ultimately winning, the Cold War. Subsequently, NATO took on different roles in countries like Bosnia and Afghanistan. Recently, the role of NATO in Europe has been revisited in the aftermath of the Russian annexation of Crimea. Join Active Minds as we take a look at the triumphs and challenges of NATO and how it continues to adapt to the 21st century landscape.

December 7, 1941 brought an attack upon the United States the likes of which had never been seen before. Join Active Minds as we tell the story from both the Japanese and the U.S. perspective. We will cover not only how the Japanese planned and executed such a bold attack, but also how the U.S. could have been caught so completely unaware. We will also examine the impact this had on World War II and the American psyche.

The holidays are just around the corner and the Salida Circus elves are swamped with demand for circus toys! They need some new recruits to try out their bucket stilts, juggling scarves, and spinning plates! Are you willing to give our circus elves a hand?

Come see a mini circus show that includes a unicyclist, acrobatics, knife juggling, jokes and so much more!
