What's Up with Prospector?

Good things often come to those who wait.  And you have been waiting a long time for the return of the Prospector service.  We have to assume that the original gold prospectors were patient folks much like library customers.  You may have given up, and for good reason, but we haven't!

The Library's previous automation system was connected to Prospector via a customized program that is no longer allowed by the system behind Prospector, requiring the creation of an entirely new connection process.  The effort to reconnect the Denver Public Library to Prospector has been technically challenging.  All parties involved have been working diligently to overcome integration issues, however, and together we have made significant progress.

Prospector's New Look

Prospector has a new look for keyword searching for an improved searching experience. On the DPL site, direct links to Prospector (such as on the Didn't Find It page) will go to the new search page. If you select any search type other than Keyword, you'll go back to the "classic" interface. Prospector's Keyword search is similar to the power of DPL's new catalog:

  • Single search box to search all fields
  • Powerful relevance ranking
  • Facets to filter by format, language, year, location and other elements

Format limiting has not been possible before in Prospector. Now you can limit to DVDs or any other format. Use the Keyword search to enter the title or any combination of words, authors, subjects, etc. On the results list, use the "Refine by" list to limit to DVD/Videos, Books or any other format.
