One woman’s jewelry is another man’s harbinger. Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright wore elaborate brooches to broadcast messages to colleagues and the press during her diplomatic career. Her collection of pins is now the focus of a traveling show and a book from Harper Collins titled Read My Pins. The Denver Art Museum exhibits her collection this month and kicks off the show with a fun Untitled event. Fresh City Life will be on hand to bang out fresh buttons that you can wear to let the world know whether to approach with caution or step up and smile.
Directed by Arthur Hiller. Starring Shelley Long, Bette Midler.
One of the funniest female buddy movies ever made. The oddball pairing of Shelley Long and Bette Midler turned into box office gold; their chemistry is undeniable – whether they are fighting over a man or trying to save the United States from an environmental terrorist. 100 minutes. Rated R.
If you are intrigued by lace knitting and love all things Parisian, this is the workshop for you. We’re making a beautiful shawl with a very Paris motif and each week students will receive a portion of the instructions. The designer herself will be creating our weekly handouts; and on the last night, we’ll have a special presentation from one of our teachers on the proper method for blocking and finishing lace. This is a basic lace pattern, so it’s a good project for intermediate skill level knitters.
In celebration of the Curious Theatre debut of the play about artist Mark Rothko entitled Red, we're all going to paint a Rothko. Well, we're going to try and along the way we’ll learn how Rothko approached his art; we'll also explore some of his techniques for building depth in his mysterious and meditative paintings. This workshop will be taught by Denver's mastermind artist Jimmy Sellars. All paintings will be displayed at the library for the months of April and May, and then you'll have it back for your home gallery. $15 materials fee (all supplies and materials provided).
