Saturday Sessions:

Sweet Song: Hammered Dulcimer with Peter Hebert

Sweet Song: Hammered Dulcimer with Peter Hebert
Saturday, November 29, 2-3 p.m.
Central Library, Level 1 Schlessman Hall

An expert instrumentalist, Peter Hebert plays the evocative hammered dulcimer and its cousin, the psaltery, with masterful ease – filling the air with the ancient sounds of Medieval Europe. The Graeco-Roman dulcimer (sweet song) derives its name from the Latin dulcis (sweet) and the Greek melos (song). Find out how perfectly named this haunting instrument can be when Peter Hebert makes his dulcimer sing a sweet song. This concert will feature improvisations on songs and melodies of the Holiday Season.

Their angelic singing, bright spirits, and holiday cheer will enhance your season. This concert will include favorite holiday carols, and plenty of inspirational singing and maybe even an audience sing-along. Come see why the Denver Gay Men's Chorus is the premiere chorus in Denver. A perfect prelude to downtown’s Parade of Lights!

Fingerstyle Guitar with Jon Sousa

Saturday, December 13, 2-3 p.m.
Central Library, Level 1 Schlessman Hall

Jon Sousa will give a one hour performance on guitar and tenor banjo, with repertoire mainly stemming from Traditional Irish music, but including some Jazz and Classical. Jon’s passion for music has taken him all over the world from the beautiful countryside of France, studying with master fingerstyle guitar player Pierre Bensusan to Senegal, West Africa, studying Sabar drumming and a lengthy sabbatical in Ireland in 2008 where he refined his skills in interpreting Irish music. Jon recently released a new CD of instrumental guitar music entitled "Twilight," featuring all original compositions.

Knitting for Our Troops (K*4*O*T) Caps Project

Knitting for Our TroopsKeeping Our Soldiers Warm All Over the World!

Fresh City Life is partnering with the Rocky Mountain USO to create knitted items for care packages for our service men and women overseas. It's easy to join the project: just knit a cap or two and deliver them to the Fresh City Life office, in the Central Library (Fresh City Life is located on Level One, west entrance) and we'll bundle them up and deliver them to the Rocky Mountain USO. They'll package the caps with other donated gifts and essentials for our soldiers and send them off.

Dear Knitters,

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Knitting for Our Troops project. We will continue to collect hats through the end of October 2010. Hats received after that time will be donated to another worthy cause here in Denver (like Urban Peak center for at-risk and homeless youth).
