Citizenship Ceremony Welcomes 76 New Citizens

On December 7, 2010, the Denver Public Library hosted a Citizenship ceremony on behalf of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This is the 10th year the Library has sponsored the event. This year, 76 citizens from 39 countries were naturalized. Together with their friends and families, about 275 people attended the ceremony in the Central Library's Schlessman Hall, followed by a brief reception in the B2 Conference Center.

The Hon. Judge Christina M. Habas from the 2nd Judicial District Court administered the Oath and Pledge of Allegiance. Also in attendance was Ms. Karen Rokala, President of the Library Commission. Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution handed out miniature flags. Members of the Monument Hill Sertoma Club distributed copies of booklets containing the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The West High School JROTC Color Guard directed by Antonio Cruz, Jr. gave the Presentation of the Colors. Denver School of the Arts singers Jubille Davis (fellow Librarian James Davis' daughter) and Destiny Scott sang the National Anthem and "America the Beautiful."
