Laughter and Tears: A Klezmer Concert
To coincide with Paula Burger's visit, Fresh City Life hosts a special musical event -- a traditional Klezmer concert with Joe Lukasik (clarinet) and James Hoskins (cello). With deep roots in Eastern Europe, Klezmer music has come to symbolize the human experience and struggles in Jewish culture and history. Through musical snapshots of life before and after the Holocaust, Joe and James explore Pikauch Nefesh -- the concept that the preservation of life overrides any other consideration. In Yiddish, klei means vessel and zemer means song -- a Klezmer musician is an instrument of song. Their music evokes the human voice -- crying, wailing, laughing. Enjoy this special concert in prelude to author Paula Burger's visit to DPL to discuss her book Paula's Window.
