National Foster Care Month

May is National Foster Care Month

All children deserve a safe, happy life — including the 496,000 American children and youth in foster care. Young people in foster care especially need nurturing adults on their side because their own families are in crisis and unable to care for them.

Find out more about National Foster Care Month.

There are an estimated 496,000 children and youth currently in out-of-home care and 12 million foster care alumni in the United States. Most of the children in Colorado's public child welfare system range in age from 2 to 18. Abuse, neglect or other family issues prevent them from living with their birth parents.
