2009 Denver Public Library Latino Awards
Request For Nominations
The Denver Public Library is seeking nominations for its eighth annual Latino Community Service Awards. The Library offers two awards, and nominations are being accepted through Friday, February 20.
The Lena L. Archuleta Community Service Award
The recipient will be a Colorado resident of Latino descent who has taken an active role in the community, above and beyond paid employment. The recipient will have made an impact on the cultural life of the community through his or her involvement with the Denver Public Library or another civic institution. Members of the general community including those affiliated with the Library may be considered for the award.
Past winners include: Lena L. Archuleta, Olibama Lopez Tushar, Beverly Martinez, and Carlos Fresquez, Anthony J. Garcia and Rosa Linda Aguirre.
The César Chávez Latino Leadership Hall of Fame Award
The Award will celebrate the induction of two individuals (one male and one female) into the César Chávez Leadership Hall of Fame. The recipients will be Coloradans of Latino origin who have made a major contribution to and/or achievements in Denver’s Latino community. The recipients must be Latinos whose contributions in a particular field positively impacted the total community. Past winners include: Ruben Valdez, Lena L. Archuleta, Manuel “Sam” Sandos, Polly Baca, Rudolfo “Corky” Gonzales, Mary Baca, The Honorable Roger Cisneros, Rosemary Rodriguez, Senator Ken Salazar, and Reverend Lucia Guzman, Patricia Barela Rivera and Mr. Salvadore (Sal) Cario Jr.

Nominations should be no longer than two pages in length and must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2009. Nominations may be considered for either award category. Previous years nominations will also be considered. A resume may also be included with the nomination letter.
The nomination must include the nominee’s address and phone number. All nominations must include the nominator’s name, address and phone number.
The awards presentations and celebration will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Woodbury Branch Library, 3265 Federal Blvd. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call Consuelo Cosio at 720-865-2047.
