Reading aloud to children stimulates imagination, creativity and curiosity, expands their experience of the world and develops a love of books and literature. Six pre-reading skills incorporated into the storytimes provide the necessary foundation for them to become readers. You can help the children in your community by becoming a Read-Aloud Volunteer! The Denver Public Library is looking for volunteers to read stories once a week to economically at-risk children in the Denver area. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed. Please call us at 720-865-1308 and ask how you can get involved. A 13-week commitment beginning September 15, 2008 is required. |
