Band Boot Camp - Starting a Band with Mark Bliesener

Do you have what it takes to go from jamming in the garage to the big stage? Veteran music industry manager, consultant and author Mark Bliesener will share countless tips for young bands trying to succeed in today's changing music industry in this fun lecture. He’ll discuss the basics of starting and keeping a band together as well as how to get gigs, record, promote, release your own disc and how to cost effectively take it on the road. Mark may also share a few personal stories and insights about his own career working with artists like Alan Parsons, Lyle Lovett, the Ugly Americans and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Whether you’ve been playing for years or just starting, Mark has information that can help you save time and money as your band travels the often rocky road to stardom.

About Mark Bliesener

Mark Bliesener is managing director of Denver based BandGuru Management and Consulting. In addition to his duties as a personal manager for artists including Alan Parsons and George Inai, he hosts BandGuru.com, the web's first online music business consulting site. He has more than 40 years of daily experience in the music business; as a musician (1966-1976), music critic (1976-1978), publicist (1978-1988) and personal manager since 1989.

Bliesener has received 16 Gold and Platinum records from artists whose careers he has managed or co-managed including Lyle Lovett, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He is the author of The Complete Idiots Guide to Starting a Band, published by Penguin Books. In addition, he’s a regular speaker at music industry seminars including South by Southwest and the UK's In The City.
