Tony Sarg. a puppeteer of renown, was approached by the Macy Department Store to decorate their Christmas windows. Tony was then asked to help with the employee’s holiday parade and by using his creativity with puppets; the balloons we see today in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade are the final product of this ingenuity. Simple but colorful drawings accompany this non-fiction tale along with a few photos of Sarg’s original balloons. Enough nuggets for a child to come away with some fun facts and maybe they’ll want to explore their creativity too. Just a hint, the next time you watch the parade turn your head upside down and imagine the balloons as marionettes and you’ll see how Tony Sarg invented the balloons.
