Don’t cross your eyes, they’ll get stuck that way!  Wash your hair daily to keep it clean!  You’re wasting food while children are starving in (insert country)!  All of these things and many others are told to countless children by their parents and grandparents.  Although elders tell children many things, some are merely false and used to curb annoying habits.  Others are worth heeding.  In Because I Said So!, Ken Jennings researches these myths and reveals which ones are true and which are not.  Although he clearly gives his own opinion on all of them, he does a nice job of objectively evaluating both sides of the scientific debate.  He is witty and creative in his presentation.  The only downside to this book is that it can be a bit overwhelming to read so many facts in one sitting.  I would recommend this book for a coffee table, waiting area, or bathroom as the subjects are rarely more than a page long and can be read leisurely without the need to remember previous passages.
