Review

I picked up The Cape simply because I recognized Joe Hill’s name on the cover, which should have been a warning from the first. I do not usually enjoy the horror genre, but the premise piqued my interest. What if there was a cape that granted the wearer the ability to fly like a superhero, but the person wielding that power was far from perfect? While Eric may have been more or less just unmotivated, selfish, delusional, and angry before inheriting The Cape, he quickly catapults over the edge into sociopath territory when given the ability to take revenge for perceived slights. I felt a little bit squeamish about some of the illustrations, but as a horror graphic novel that was the intended effect. I would recommend this graphic novel for adults with an interest in horror or dark superhero tales.
