This is the fourth Inspector Chen book from Chinese author Qiu Xiaolong. Qiu lives in the U.S. and writes in English. His detective, a poet and translator of poetry from English into Chinese, likewise straddles two societies. In this book, Inspector Chen is assigned to an anti-corruption investigation that takes him to the United States and into danger. Beautiful poetry is scattered through the narrative, as are great descriptions of Shanghai and Chinese society.
