Review

This is a powerful series of inter-related short stories. The Dew Breaker was a Haitian torturer many years ago. He now lives in New York with his wife and grown daughter. He is a changed man. No one, with the possible exception of his wife, knows of his former life. These stories start with the present day and move back and forth through time with various narrators and peripheral plots. The writing is beautiful; the language and images are powerful and not nearly as dark as the subject may imply.
