What if you didn't know your dad and he came to take you away? That's what happened to Gim Lew. He lived in a small village in China with his mother and sisters. All the men and boys in his family lived in America and sent money back to their family in China. When the boys were old enough, Father would come and take them to America with him. This story tells about Gim Lew's life in China, how he felt about leaving for America, and his voyage to San Francisco. This story, set in 1922, tells how many immigrants from China first lived in the United States.
