Review

These stories represent the three major languages of the Caribbean- English, French and Spanish and the authors are literary giants (there is a Nobel Prize winner among them). Make no mistake though, these are not stories that talk about sitting in the shade of a palm tree sipping a cold drink. Many of the stories deal with people surviving day to day life in the islands but a few of the stories deal with the life of the immigrant and the choices some people face when they decide to leave the Caribbean for life abroad.  Though some of the translated stories lose some of the resonance of the original, the wit is still evident however. Overall, this collection deals with some universal themes-love, loss, life and death and this is what makes this volume accessible to any reader.
