Review

This tale introduces the Sisters brothers, a pair of hired guns sent to protect the interests of the Comodore during the California Gold Rush.  As the first western I had ever read, I found myself pleasantly surprised.  "The Sisters Brothers" was a quick paced book that kept me surprised time and time again.  Just when I thought I had begun to know Charlie & Eli there would be a twist, true to the characters and yet so unexpected.  The short chapters in this book held my interest and made it a simple sprint through 70 pages in a sitting.  I appreciated the simple language which was fitting to the characters kept the tale accessible yet interesting.  Unlike the way I pictured a western (white hats and noon-time duels) this tale is a little dark with a hint of sarcasm and a touch of humor that kept me intrigued from beginning to end.
