Review

The tragic tale of a young soldier who falls in love with a transgendered nightclub performer. Based on actual events, this is a story about the army and the devastating implications of "Don't ask, don't tell;" but ultimately it is a love story. Nuanced performances by Troy Garity as Private Barry Winchell and Lee Pace as Calpernia earned them both Golden Globe nominations. Pace's emotional range, from tough-as-nails showgirl to ingenue experiencing the uncertainties of a new love is stunning.
