Catherine Li is an elite UN Peacekeeper, shipped across the galaxy to protect colonies and investigate suspicious activity. Her sometime partner, Cohen, is a 400+ year old AI whose mercurial ways often leave Li wondering if he is actually helping her, or if he is only around to further his own goals. When Li is sent back to her home colony to investigate a murder, her inability to remember the past may cost Li more than her life. Set in a future where humans can no longer live on Earth and are wired and genetically modified as a matter of course, this is a great sci-fi mystery. This is the first book in a very detailed and well imagined hard science fiction trilogy. If you’re interested in theory and the practical how of the future, you will really enjoy this. Book 2 is Spin Control and book 3 is Ghost Spin.
