Agent Pendergast returns and is as unflappable as ever. A particularly gruesome series of murders brings Aloyisious Pendergrast out of his Manhattan setting and plops him in the middle of America. A gruesome mystery is taking shape in Medicine Creek, KS when a mutilated body is found in the middle of a corn field, surrounded by crows that have been impaled on arrows. In this addition to the Pendergast cycle we meet Corrie Swenson, a girl who is just dying to get out of her small town, and she just might before the tale is through. One of my favorites in the series
