Although very little is left of the redwood forest in Northern California, what remains is truly a remarkable ecosystem unto itself. Biologists once considered the canopy of redwoods and other giant trees in the temperate rainforest as lifeless areas until very recently. Nothing could be further from the truth. What lives over 30 stories off the ground is an immense collection of plants, animals and tree structures almost impossible to imagine.
