Event Details
Join us for an evening with award-winning Indigenous Two-Spirit poet Crisosto Apache reading from their latest collection of poems called Ghostword. As part of the evening’s event, Crisosto will share poetic selections from the book and discuss themes influenced by growing up on the Mescalero Apache reservation, inviting the audience into a dialogue around themes of identity, language, and the power of poetry to express the inexpressible. His writing reflects a rich tapestry of Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+ experiences, weaving together personal narrative, historical context, and poetic form. The book also follows in structure the Modernist Japanese writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s last manuscript A Fool’s Life. Through this event, Crisosto will explore how poetry can serve as a tool to express personal and collective healing, offering unique perspectives on crafting verse that speaks to both the past and present. Expect an engaging and reflective discussion on the transformative potential of words. Come prepared for a thought-provoking session that celebrates the art of poetry and the stories that inspire it.
