Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a special evening with award-winning author, journalist, and advocate Jessica Goudeau as she explores the powerful themes from her acclaimed books After the Last Border and We Were Illegal. Through these works, Jessica offers a unique lens into the personal stories of migration, displacement, and resilience.

After the Last Border examines the journeys of two refugee women rebuilding their lives in America, illuminating the human impact of U.S. immigration policies. We Were Illegal takes a deep dive into pivotal moments in Texas history, weaving together generations of Goudeau’s own family history and confronting the myths we hold—both nationally and personally—about identity and belonging.

Together, these narratives highlight the complexities of finding home in an ever-changing world. Jessica will share insights from her research, discuss the personal stories that inspire her, and invite the audience into a reflective conversation about the role of storytelling in migration advocacy. The event will conclude with an audience Q&A session and book signing.
