Celebrate National Poetry Month with Denver Public Library!
Bobby LeFebre is an award-winning writer, performer, and cultural and social worker fusing a non-traditional multi-hyphenated professional identity to imagine new realities, empower communities, advance arts and culture, and serve as an agent of provocation, transformation, equity and social change. LeFebre is the youngest and first Poet Laureate of Color in Colorado’s history. In 2019, LeFebre was named Colorado Theatre Person of the Year.
Suzi Q. Smith is an award-winning writer and performer from Denver, as well as an artist, activist and educator. Suzi writes, performs, and teaches poetry as a tool for self-reflection, healing, and building community. Suzi’s passionate performance style and fearless approach to challenging content have led her to be consistently among the most well-known performing poets in the United States. Suzi currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs.
Smith and LeFebre will discuss poetry, the role of a poet laureate, and how the arts can connect communities in some not-so-surprising ways. Both LeFebre and Smith will perform their own work, followed by audience Q&A.
