Event Details

Kwanzaa is a celebration that honors the African first fruit harvest tradition. The fifth and sixth day of Kwanzaa highlights the principles of Nia (Purpose) & Kuumba (Creativity). This program will feature the Friends of Joda who will welcome us into the space and provide an introduction to Kwanzaa and the Diaspora Dancers who will share the ways dance can promote mental and physical wellness while celebrating the rich history of the African diaspora. Michela Brooks is a Colorado native. A lover of diverse genres of dance and fitness, she has been a lifelong student and now instructor. She believes that dance is a way to not only share and learn about different cultures, but also to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. She is the only certified KUKUWA® African Dance Workout instructor in CO. Michela founded Diaspora Dance to share dance and fitness from across the Black diaspora with local communities. *Kuumba (koo-OOM-bah), Creativity - To always do as much as we can, in the way that we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful than when we inherited it.
