PlayTime is considered to be Jacques Tati’s masterpiece and it is consistently listed on Top 50 lists for movies and directors. The many novelties of this film make it so worth seeing: huge sets that mimic the business district in Paris, a perfect and subdued color palette, dialogue that is so limited that it is nearly a silent film. It is a trip to an amusement park through Tati’s vision of modern life. Funny and at the same time sweetly sentimental, PlayTime is first and foremost an unparalleled visual experience. This film is free to watch on the streaming service Kanopy which you can subscribe to using your library card. Not a Kanopy member yet? Grab your library card and get started here.
