Featuring Chris ‘Citrus’ Sauthoff. When George Harrison and The Beatles befriended Ravi Shankar, the traditional instrument of classical Indian music, the sitar, was embraced by American audiences. It is often heard in world music; its sympathetic tones marrying well with a wide range of musical genres. Chris ‘Citrus’ Sauthoff brings his signature style to the sitar – the soul of traditional Indian music.

Let’s party like its 1599! Lutenist Ben Cohen performs lively lute music from the renaissance to the early baroque, including music of Elizabethan England by famed English composer John Dowland, and German baroque music by J.S. Bach’s contemporary Silvius Leopold Weiss.

Each of these performers has appeared at Denver Public Library as solo performers. This concert will mark their debut concert at the library as a duo. Both of these talented cello players are sought-after musicians in Denver and their presentations at Central Library are always much anticipated. Accordion maestro, Dan Tulinko, will demonstrate the fascinating versatility of the instrument nicknamed the ‘one man band’ known for its ability to carry and create both the harmonic and melodic structure of a song at the same time. From button box and piano accordion, Dan uses the ‘squeeze box’ to play jazz, vaudeville and European folk music.

Frida Kahlo’s Aguas Frescas Stand and Bodega del Botón

In celebration of Mexican culture and Cinco de Mayo, Fresh City Life hosts a stand just outside our west entrance. Come by to sample some traditional aguas frescas (which means fresh waters), light and refreshing beverages made from fruit juices, fresh fruit and other natural ingredients. We’ll also have all of our button makers on hand so that you can create a cool button or magnet commemorating the day. All free and open to the public.

Adam Agee and Jon Sousa are two of Colorado’s most sought-after traditional Irish musicians. Since 2004, they have been journeying together through the Irish idiom on fiddle, guitar, and tenor banjo, enchanting listeners on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Adam and Jon have put down musical roots in County Clare, where they lived together, and now make frequent visits. Their connection to their instruments and the transcendent energy in their music is guaranteed to captivate and uplift audiences of all ages.

Ever wanted to make your own Minecraft mod? We'll be using tools called Eclipse and Minecraft Forge to make our own custom items, blocks, and crafting recipes. Geek alert: this requires coding. We'll be using the Java programming language. If you're familiar with it, that's great, but noobs are welcome too.
