It's never too early to look ahead and plan your upcoming week. Whether you need to fix up your resume, learn some computer skills, or try your hand at knitting, there is plenty for you to enjoy at these Fresh City Life My Branch events!

Do you think you know Colorado History? Well learn about the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Colorado history at this great program, presented by the Fairmount Heritage Foundation. Hear stories that didn’t make it into the history books about Speer, Iliff, Lowry, Elitch, and others. This event is happening at the Ross-University Hills Branch on Thursday, August 25 at 6 p.m.

Tom Noel, “Dr. Colorado” Honored as 12th Recipient of Denver Public Library’s Eleanor Gehres Award

On September 14, the Denver Public Library will recognize Thomas Jacob "Tom" Noel as the 12th recipient of the Eleanor Gehres Award, which was established in 2000 in honor of Ms. Gehres, who headed the Library’s Western History and Genealogy Department for 25 years.

Known as "Dr. Colorado," Tom has been involved with the Library serving on several committees for over 20 years, and has donated numerous materials and photos to the Western History and Genealogy Department. He is also one of the Library’s favorite customers.

We're bringing the harvest to you this Saturday.

I really hope you'll come to our Harvest Days cooking demo this Saturday. It will be the largest and most spectacular demo we've ever hosted. Chef Shellie sent me a note this morning to remind me what she'd be preparing -- pickled beets, beet green and walnut pesto and roasted Kohlrabi with Parmesan Cheese...Yummm! And, yes, she is making enough for you to try it, too!

About the Refuseniks

On June 15, 1970, twelve citizens of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics purchased every ticket on a flight from Leningrad to Priozersk. Claiming that they were traveling to a wedding, they prepared to board the ten-seater Antonov An-2. Their true objective was to hijack the plane, fly to Sweden and leave their homeland.

Before they boarded the place at Leningrad’s Smolny airfield, government authorities arrested them.

Award winning Colorado author, speaker, broadcaster, and philanthropist Dom Testa will be at Schlessman this Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m.

Testa hosts a top-rated morning radio show, speaks to schools and professional organizations all over the country, writes the best-selling Galahad book series for young adults, and oversees the non-profit educational foundation The Big Brain Club. He has won numerous awards for his writing and his radio program. The latest book in the Galahad Series is The Dark Zone. Books will be available for sale and signing.
