The Fresh City Life My Branch Colorado Authors Series continues on Sunday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schlessman Family Branch.

Elizabeth Yarnell will discuss her book Glorious One-Pot Meals: A New Quick and Healthy Approach to Dutch Oven Cooking. She will demonstrate her unique, patented method of quick and healthy one-pot dinners while telling the inspirational story of how she took a devastating diagnosis and turned it into a way of cooking and eating that everyone can enjoy. Books will be available for sale.

Our favorite chef brings home great Jewish foods from the Iberian Peninsula

KitchenCue's Chef Shellie Kark is presenting a selection of Jewish regional cuisines and recipes in the month of May. Past weeks have included Eastern European and New York specialties. 

This Sunday 5/15 at 1:30 p.m., Chef Kark will explore the cuisine of the Sephardic Jews -- the foods that sprang from the region of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal).

Are you ready for summer? While the kids are doing DPL's Summer of Reading Program, adults can have fun and learn at the library all summer long, too! Summer's not quite here yet, but these upcoming Fresh City Life My Branch programs will give you a taste:

Learn to make (and sample) creative Summer Salads at Schlessman on Monday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. If you're tired of iceberg lettuce, this class is for you! Cool off mealtime while keeping it healthy with these salads that will introduce more veggies into your diet and that your whole family will love!

This Sunday, we're throwing a little party in honor of Moms everywhere. We hope that you can come -- and bring your Mom!

First, Chef Shellie Kark is going to take us on a tour of New York Jewish Deli cuisine, with her demo and sampling of traditional knishes. YUMMM.

But that's not enough! Our friends at Whole Foods Market have chipped in so that we can serve a sweet deli finish -- like rich cheesecake. And we just might have a surprise or two for our Mom's.

Its origins track back to the siege of Castelnaudary by the Black Prince, Edward the Prince of Wales, in 1355. The villagers came together to create a large cauldron of beans, meat and herbs to fortify their warriors — and cassoulet was born.

I read a recent New York Times article, Gadgets You Should Get Rid Of (or Not), that lists the devices that we can do away with (or keep) now that technology has progressed to the point of redundancy. One of the suggestions broke my heart: cookbooks.

“BOOKS Keep them (with one exception)… there is one area where printed matter is going to give way to digital content: cookbooks. Martha Stewart Makes Cookies, a $5 app for the iPad, is the wave of the future. Every recipe has a photo of the dish (something far too expensive for many printed cookbooks).

As you may know, March is National Frozen Food Month, in previous posts i declared this month to instead be Cook-Something-For-Yourself month!

My intention is to get people to avoid relying on frozen food this month, but let's renegotiate that. How about you cook some home made frozen food instead?
