Start planning now for the Fresh City Life My Branch 2012 Building Contest! Entries will be accepted between January 3-13. What will you build? See below for guidelines, and branches for official entry forms!

2012 Lego Contest Guidelines
Create a scene using our “Supersonic World – 2012 and Beyond!” theme using Legos! Creativity is a must, so all entries must come straight from your imagination (i.e., no Lego sets). Prizes will be awarded in adult, child (by age group), teen, and family categories. Judging will be held at the Bear Valley branch on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at noon.

The Fresh City Life My Branch Colorado Authors Series delves into Colorado history this week with Joyce Lohse, presenting Mining for the Real Baby Doe Tabor on Sunday, December 4 at 2 p.m. at Schlessman.

Lohse has written biographies of various figures in Colorado history. In her latest book, Baby Doe Tabor: Matchless Silver Queen, award-winning Centennial author, Joyce B. Lohse, gives a biographical viewpoint of Colorado's favorite female mining legend.

Plan Your Playdate With Denver!

The Fresh City Life My Branch Colorado Authors Series presents Kyrie Collins, author of Playdate with Denver and Colorado's Front Range on Sunday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schlessman Family Branch.

 

When Collins moved to the Denver area, she had a two-year-old toddler and was six months pregnant. Immediately, she began searching for a resource of fun and interesting places to take her children. Most of the information she found was either for older children or focused on a specific area or activity. She wanted a wide array of destinations for every season of the year and for every budget. Since she couldn’t find one, she decided to create one.

Norman Rockwell's Freedom From Want

Are Norman Rockwell's images portrayals of the world he lived in or are they wishful painting?

One year for Thanksgiving, I begged my mom to bring the roasted turkey to the table uncarved so that we might participate in a tableau vivant of Norman Rockwell's painting Freedom From Want. As a middle class kid interested in art, I was familiar with many of Rockwell's beloved illustrations and I was convinced that this Thanksgiving scene should be acted out. Here's how it went down:
