Join us for a celebration of National Poetry Month with Colorado Poet Laureate Joseph Hutchison and Aurora Poet Laureate Assetou Xango. Hutchison is the author of 15 poetry collections, including “Thread of the Real” and “Marked Men,” a verse cycle about the Sand Creek Massacre. Hutchison writes muscular lines with a sharp eye for the outside world and the inner pathways of the human heart. Assetou Xango is a poet and community activist born and raised in Colorado. She has been performing poetry since 2009, was featured on HBO's Brave New Voices in 2010, and is a two-time TEDxMileHigh Speaker. She is currently the coordinator for Poetry Out Loud, a youth poetry competition through LightHouse Writers, Denver. Hutchison and Xango will discuss the road to being chosen as poet laureates, and will do readings and performances of their own work. We'll also be leaving time for Q&A with the poets.
