Hold Your Holds!

Have you ever placed a hold on a book only to have it arrive at a time when you can’t enjoy it? Maybe you just don’t have time in your life right now to sit down and read all those items on your request list and want to avoid having them all come in at the same time.

No matter the circumstance, most of us have checked out items from the library only to return them unread, unwatched, or unexperienced. There IS a better way. Take control of your holds with our Suspend Hold feature!

What it does:
Suspend Hold allows you to continue moving up in the queue for a requested title but will not fulfill the request any earlier than the suspend until date you set.

When to use it:

  • Travel Plans

If you’re going out of town and don’t want to miss your chance with that long-awaited hold, suspend it until after you get back.

  • Manage Volume

Hold some holds when you have a lot of requests and don’t want to risk them all coming in at once.  You only have so many arms and so many hours in a day, right?

  • Impose Order

Sometimes life gets in the way of a great read. If you have a title on hold but know you’re going to be too busy to enjoy it, suspend it for a while.

Watching your way through a great series and don’t want to receive the seasons out of order? Suspend Hold is the answer!

How to do it:

  1. Login to your account at denverlibrary.org
  2. Go to your holds queue
  3. Check the box next to any active or pending holds you want to suspend
  4. Click the Suspend/Re-activate button
  5. Set your suspend until date
